Description
1904 Mauser Vergueiro Yataghan Sword Bayonet. These are very rare Yataghan style sword bayonets from Brazil, for the Portuguese pattern M1904 Mauser-Vergueiro. This was the last sword bayonet of this sword style ever made, and is the only Yataghan sword for a Mauser pattern rifle. The estimated number of these swords manufactured is less than 5,000, and even fewer are known to still survive. Blade has very little surface rust and no pitting whatsoever with only a slight chip on the spine pictured in the fourth photo. This sword has a superb patina and would make an excellent piece for any enthusiast's collection.
Blade is 17.562" or 446mm with overall 22.375", 568 mm Stamped 3250 with ricasso marking of Brazilian national crest over "F.P.D.F" (Forca Publica Distrito Federal) As described on :This sword bayonet was used with the 7mm M1904 Mauser-Vergueiro rifle by the paramilitary police force of Rio de Janeiro. According to researcher Paul Scarlata, DWM built 5,000 M1904 rifles chambered in 7 mm for Brazil in 1906.
