Description
An IMPERIAL RUSSIAN OFFICER'S DRAGOON SWORD (SHASHKA), MODEL 1881.An exceptionally rare, well-made shashka, manufactured by private factory with blade maker's mark “Сидоровъ Со”. This sword is a prize one and was presented to the officer winner of the Regimental’ fencing contest. On one side of the blade is engraved inscription in this regard “Prize of the Semenovsky Life Guards Regiment to Captain Alexeev for fencing contest 21 December 1868 ”
Front part of the guard on both sides has engravings “For courage - За храбрость”. Wooden grip was replaced and back brass bolt contains replica of the St. Anna Order attached to it.
The scabbard (wooden part and leather) was completely refurbished but the brass parts are original. At the upper side of the scabbard can be seen special insignia “За фехтовальный бой - For fencing combat”, awarded as a result of the victory at the fencing contest. This Special insignia was originally authorized in 1879 at the order of the Military Minister No 284, which made for the use of prize weapons in formation.
Due to national law which forbids sales of the antique items older than 50 years, in supporting paper, this sword will be indicated as a souvenir.
