    Description

Barnum & Bailey 1903 Traveling Circus Photo of the Two Hemispheres Bandwagon & 40 Horses. Image measures 8" x 10". Has a stamp on the backside Harry Atwell Assignment Photographer. An online bio of Atwell states that he didn't shoot his first Circus photo until 1907, but this is dated 1903 with a name I can't clearly read that's given twice in the lower right corner.  There's handwriting on the backside that states this image is from a European town. There are a couple of street signs in the photo that read, "Empire Ave.". Just below the man standing beside the horses and looking at the camera, there is a faint title and it reads, " The Forty Horse BandWagon ". It's a nice composition with the tents in the background, a few onlookers standing on the street, one riding by on a bicycle, and the perspective of the horses pulling the Bandwagon full of the Circus' entertainers.
Please view photos carefully for condition issues; the two lower corners have creases, there are a couple of white spots in the paper on the image- most noticably over the head of a well dressed man riding a horse in front of the Bandwagon. A bit of soiling over the Harry Atwell stamp on the backside. The photo has a bit of curl- please see last listing photo.
Hope this makes a special addition to any display or collection & Thanks so much for taking a look!
