Custom Handmade 21" Heavy Steel Blade Sword & Leather Sheath COS PLAY

This Custom Handmade 21" Heavy Steel Blade Sword & Leather Metal Tipped Sheath is in good condition overall but does show signs of age and storage. I cannot find any markings anywhere on this blade. It's 21" blade is unfullered but does have an edge. The crossguard and blade are both covered in a light coating of varnish, not unlike that seen on objects in museums. The sword's grip appears to be constructed of heavy brass wire wrapped around the blade's tang, which appears to be covered in leather. The pommel is covered in heavy leather and lashed together. Construction on all components is "hearty" to say the least. The leather sheath is in fair condition but does appear to have been dry for a long time resulting in some torn spots in the leather. One of these spots has clearly been repaired. The tip of the sheath is a piece of metal fastened together with two brass rivets, each with "88" stamped on their backsides. The rivets at the throat of the sheath also have "88" stamped on them, making this the only discernable stamp I can locate on either piece. I believe this sword to possibly have been made as a prop for a movie, as the applied varnish would help protect the blade from abuse but would negate it's use as a blade. A very unique, mysterious piece! Please examine the photographs carefully for the best description of condition.
