    KING GEORG II. of GREAT BRITAIN and IRELAND (1683-1760)
    18th century
    Description:
    Double-edged blade with octagonal section, the forte etched, blued and gilt, partially spotty and pitted.
    Gilt brass hilt with a double shell-guard profusely decorated with rocailles, mourning band wrapped around the knuckleguard.
    Slightly bumped and rubbed leather scabbard with brass mounts.
    Length: 95cm
    From 1727 to his death, Georg II. August (1683-1760) was King of Great Britain and Ireland, German elector of Brunswick-Lüneburg (Hanover) and nominally one of the Dukes of Brunswick-Lüneburg.
    He was the second king from the House of Hanover and the last British monarch who was not born in Great Britain and who led his troops into battle.

    Condition: II/III. Extremely rare decorative collector's item from the royal family of Hanover and King Georg II. of Great Britain and Ireland.
    This small personal sword of the King was sold by Sotheby's at Castle Marienburg, Hannover, Germany.
