Model 1852 Navy Officer's Sword LT ROY AIKMAN 1917 Chief Pharmacist USS WheelingLT Roy Aikman, Medical Corps is buried in Arlington National Cemetery (b.1880 d. 1940)
He is documented as having received the Nicaraguan Medal of Merit (see pic attached)
White sharkskin grip in excellent condition. Scabbard is in 2 pieces and is not complete.
Engraved on blade:
"Presented to ROY AIKMAN Pharmacist U.S.N. by the Chief Petty Officers of the U.S.S. Wheeling 1917"
Engraving on throat - "RA" and "Presented to Roy Aikman Pharmacist U.S.N. by the C.P. Officers of the U.S.S. Wheeling 1917"
The maker was I. Bernstein, a jeweler in Brooklyn, N.Y. who specialized in Naval jewelry and swords
Blade as it leaves the hilt is 3/4" wide and is 30" long and curves up slightly at the end.
Overall length is ~36"
