Model Carnival Amusement Fairground Chapman Motor Cycle Speedway Carousel Ride

$ 580.79

Availability: 81 in stock
  • Condition: If you aren't familiar with the Speedway Carnival rides originating in the 1930s, do some research on these. I may add some more info as there are full sized restored examples in a few parts of the world as well as other information. This is a vintage replica of the motor cycle speedway. This was a real ride with many variations in paint scheme for each carnival that purchased and operated one. They really moved fast and were memorable to those who had a chance to ride. The origin of this model nor the designer/ builder of this model are lost to history. I purchased from a very large estate collection that went up for sale in Kansas. The collection had every imaginable type of transportation toy from the 30's to the 70's. Many high quality items. I believe the collection owner purchased this sometime in that time period. The construction is some type of durable wood and/or wood board. More details below .... See pics for details. Thanks for looking!

    If you aren't familiar with the Speedway Carnival rides originating in the 1930s, do some research on these. The construction is some type of durable wood and/or hard wood board. Major paint work and design color work. The motorcycles are wood and the colors on the outer area of the cycles really pop. The roof is of some type of cloth paper to simulate the tent/tarp top. There is a gear drive that moves everything around but it is in need of restore. Everything spins but the cut floor sections stack up and detach from the hub. Everything is dusty as well and could use a good disassembly and minor repair and reassemble. It will spin then ... I don't believe it is motorized but doing so would be possible with some skill and work. I would estimate that this was built in the 40s or 50s or 60s and is a quality model of a true piece of carnival history. Americana. One of a kind. A long search on the web shows a few other attempts at models some good and some much less quality. This is right up there in cool factor. Minor age and wear. Several small dings and minor damage on the stair railings. Dusty from storage. The ride spins but needs repair. The gears are solid but need repair to move the cycles. Measures approx. 14 inches in diameter withe longest point with the stairs at 17 inches long. Approx. 12" high at the peak. The motorcycles are aprrox. 2 1/2 inches long. Weighs 7.5 pounds. See pics for details. Thanks for looking!
