    Description

    Kampilan (Talong) sword from the Philippines. Forged by the T’boli ethnic group from the Cotabato area, south west of Mindanao island. The blade is straight, 26 inches long, widening toward the tip with a spikelet opposite the cutting edge. The handle and guard are cast brass decorated with many small brass bells. Hand-carved wood scabbard is covered with intricate fabric woven from local fibers, dyed horsehair, and additional decorative brass bells. Total length 34.5 inches.
    The kampilan sword is most famous for being the sword that killed Ferdinand Magellan in the Battle of Mactan in 1521.
    This is a rare of beautiful example of indigenous Filipino art and ancestral weaponry.
