Description
STRING of 5 EARLY Hand-Painted LIGHTS - Carnival SIDESHOW Freak Show CIRCUS !!!!Up for auction is a really old short set of what I'm calling carnival or sideshow tent lights. They seem way too big and heavy for Christmas tree lights.
There are 5 sockets and lights on this string plus 1 extra bulb.
Now, I sold a very similar but substantially longer string a few years ago, I think this may have been part of that set as these came from my same storage area that the others were found at. The earlier set sold to a buyer who bought props for the magician
David Copperfield and his
act in Las Vegas which, at the time, I thought was very cool !!!
I have tested the
6 bulbs with an ohmmeter, all test good for continuity, each bulb's filament measures about 35 ohms.
The old cloth wiring is getting fragile in places but still sturdy and flexible enough to test the set for operation - it does light up and work fine - see photo.
There are two old bakelite connectors on this string, one is a socket, one is a plug - guess that made it easy to lengthen as necessary with extra sections. The socket connector
is marked
Meteor
on both sides, the plug is not marked.
Cool looking
unusual shaped bulbs are very attention getting when lit up.
The bakelite plug end is missing bits here and there, the socket side is fine. The actual light bulbs are obviously missing some paint. Two of the sockets are missing the metal hanger clips, three are complete with the clips.
Note: as you can see, the bulbs are quite good now, however, no guarantees that a 100 year old bulb filament will survive the shock during shipping. They will be packed well so fingers crossed they work on your end.
Total plug to socket length is about 7 feet, and about 16 inches between sockets.
Please see all photos provided or ask questions.
What you see is what you get - sold as-is as-pictured, nothing more, nothing less.
Thanks for looking.
