Little history
:
The model 1821 saber was offered in 1817, but was not adopted until July 31, 1821 by Marshal Victor, hence its name.
It was used by infantry officers until 1845, when the new 1845 model was adopted, then was adopted again in 1854 by the non-commissioned officers of the Imperial Guard of Napoleon III, undergoing some changes. After 1870, it will still be worn by non-commissioned officers of the military justice.
There are also several variants, for example for the national guard, the royal guard, and for the cadets of military schools (with mention "given by the King").
