Historical context:
The Swiss model 1838 sword, whose handle is openly inspired by hunting daggers, known as vennerie, was put into service on December 15, 1838 for snipers in the canton of Vaud. After the adoption of the model 1842/52, it was transferred to the police force of the same canton. Similar axes were used by snipers in Neuchâtel (French Neuchâtel, German Neuchâtel - "new castle") around 1840. Most of his swords were produced by Neuhausen Switzerland and Wester & Co., Solingen in Germany.

The sword here is in superb condition. The fittings of the scabbard and the handle are made of brass. The blade is very clean, still shiny, no visible markings. The handle is brown horn with three rivets on each side. The scabbard is in very good condition, the leather is robust.
The piece is very rare, 100% original and period.
This is a superb and very rare Swiss sword, model 1838, unusual and very impressive. It will easily find a place in your display case to accompany your collection of swords or Swiss bladed weapons. Do not hesitate ! ! !
