Historical context
:
The United States Army Cavalry was a branch of the United States Army which as mounted cavalry existed from 1775 to 1942. Plains Cavalry played a role important in the extension of the central power of the United States located in the east of the North American continent towards the western uncolonized areas. Several regiments of the American armored cavalry are its contemporary descendants.
These sabers, ordered in 1839 by the Republic of Texas, were essentially Model 1833 American Dragoon sabers, except that instead of the standard "United States Dragoons" inscription on the blade, they were inscribed "Texas Dragoons". The originals were made by Ames Manufacturing Company, there were only 280 examples, they are extremely rare.
