    Description

    Historical context
    :
Bersagliers (in Italian bersaglieri) are a corps of the Italian Army. Created in 1836 by General Alessandro La Marmora to serve in the Royal Sardinian Army, which would later become the Royal Army of Italy, this light infantry unit is characterized by its great mobility, by the wearing of a hat wide-brimmed, used only in the parade uniform in contemporary times, decorated with heather cock feathers also found on modern combat helmets, and by its marching marching band playing the bersagliers hymn Flik Flok.
Engaged in the Italian wars of independence of the 19th century, this often distinguished elite unit is also involved in the world conflicts of the 20th century, in the actions of relief to the populations or the fight against crime in Italy and in the interventions. of peacekeeping in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries abroad under the aegis of the United Nations.
The volunteer bersagliers are united in a national association, broken down into local sections, organizer since 1923 of annual gatherings. The Porta Pia Museum has been commemorating since 1932 the memory of the capture of Rome by the Bersaglars in 1870, concluding the process of unification of Italy.
