Historical context
:
This saber is based on the English saber for light dragoons model 1796. The Model 1811 saber is also called a Blucher saber. After the 1807 defeat against the Napoleonic army, the Prussian army chose to reorganize its army. It imports the 1796 model saber from England to equip its hussars. It will be collected from 1807 by the hussars of Von Schill and Blucher. It will officially become in 1811 the Kavalleriesabel M1811 and later unofficially "Bluchersabel". At the time, the armament of the Prussian cavalry was mainly composed of imported weapons or so-called "catch" weapons from the Napoleonic army.
