Historical context
:
On May 12, 1831, the Infantry Committee announced the adoption of this new saber, taking the model 1816 artillery sword as its manufacturing model. Its primary use is as a cutting tool in the countryside, it can be used as a camp ax, and as a sickle to cut fodder for horses. The French sword of the 1831 model replaced the saber briquet and was widely used by the infantry, the pioneers, the artillerymen, the firefighters and the national guard as for the object here present. Also called a glaive of foot troops or also a ''straight razor'' because of its wide use. The shape of the French sword is openly inspired by the Roman swords of Antiquity. It will be widely copied by the Swiss army, the Russian army, the American army...

The handle is in brass or bronze with its grooves. The blade is in good condition in its own juice, still shiny, with traces due to time, to be cleaned. Sheath in soft leather and fittings in brass or bronze also, slightly unstitched behind without gravity. A beautiful complete piece, not so easy to find in this condition and
