HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The term '' shashka '' is the Russified form of the Caucasian word sachkho which signifies "long knife". The progressive use of the shashka sword in all Cossack groups was largely linked to the power that this rustic sword could release, particularly in charge on horseback, and its use with one hand (one hand for the weapon, and the other for the horse) which made it a weapon of choice for the Cossacks. The model here is an Afghan shashka saber, which openly leans on the illegal Caucasian model. This is an old and illegal saber, made on the basis of Caucasian models for Afghanistan.
The Afghan shashka is characterized by a narrow handle, in wood or horn with three fixing rivets. The ears of the pommel, as well as the slit and hook are small in size. The lower part of the handle was made of metal, welded to the blade. These weapons were only used in Afghanistan, which is why collectors and experts call them “Afghan-type Shashka”.

DESCRITPION
Superb Afghan shashka saber. Copied from Caucasian model. The handle is black horn without rivets, the left side has a crack and a small lack on one of the ears. The two typical ears of the shashka saber, the blade is solid and very thick with a wide groove, engraved and hallmarked (photo n ° 4), recalling the shape of a '' Yatagan ''. We find the approval markings of the Afghan manufacturer of the time. The scabbard is covered with fabrics, red velvet type, as in the books (photo n ° 5) with a gap in its center. The saber is in good condition. Almost untraceable and rare, because few models manufactured. It is 100% original and dates from the end of the 17th century. Picked up from a private individual. I am separating from it for financial reasons. Superb and very rare piece, do not hesitate.
