The yatagan is a Turkish weapon with a curved blade and the edge of which forms, towards the point, a re-entrant curve. Probably derived from the machaira, this saber is 60 to 80 cm long. The yatagan gave its shape to the bayonets of the nineteenth century, because its shape (slightly flamed) allowed it to be attached very close to the soul of the rifle without reducing the accuracy of the shot and without being burned by powder.
Avant le début de la colonisation française et l'introduction de la guillotine en Algérie en 1843 (et même après), le yatagan était utilisé pour la décapitation des condamnés à mort (Alger était alors vassale de l'Empire ottoman).

The handle is white horn, with three rivets on each side, quite solid, inlaid with oriental colors, engraved on the sides and on the beginning of the blade. The blade is in very good condition, still shiny The scabbard is leather, in good condition. A magnificent and rare piece, totally original and rare in this condition!
