    Description

This large street poster announces a festival of reed (totora) watercraft racing on Lake Titicaca, Bolivia, in 1972. The festival includes the election of the first queen “de la Papa” and a folklore competition of traditional music and dance. The superb hand cut illustration of a costumed drummer calling all to the event is outstanding both in artistic skill and imagery. The figure, looking straight at the viewer, with a devilish face mask and Spanish colonial era costume, rocks and dances to his drum. The drummer and the display fonts (block letter forms) are hand crafted. The three color blend of blue, green, and red, is created by inking a large print roller in the three colors and allowing the inks to blend.
The poster was acquired direct from Ediciones Kollasuyo, La Paz, Bolivia.
This is a rare graphic and artistic treasure for collectors.
