Vintage Made in India Sword with Metal Scabbard with Purple Decorative Covering

I am not a sword expert.  Really all I can tell you is that this sword is very old and very cool.  There is some rust on the end of the blade, that I am sure could be removed.  I bought this sword a long time ago and left it as is.  The handle, I think, is made of brass.  It looks like brass, feels like brass and has patina that you see on brass.  And it is made in India, which makes even more sense that it is brass.  I am not sure what the blade is made of.  It is decorative and it looks like someone scratched in their initials.  It is either ES or EG.  It could have been a previous owner or the maker.  Probably a previous owner.  The scabbard is wood wrapped in metal and brass and I am not sure what the metal is under the purple decorative cloth.  The handle has a lion head on top, not sure if that has any meaning.  The sword appears to be for a right handed person because there is more guard protection on the right side.  But can easily be held in either hand.  Very cool rare piece.
