Vintage? Sword with Etched Blade with Leather? Scabbard/Sheath - Made In India

I apologize for my lack of knowledge about this piece and would welcome any information
you may have!
34 1/2" overall;  blade is 29".  Blade has an etched design along entire length on both sides.
"Made in India" etched near hilt on one side.  There are letters/words on the other side too
but I cannot make out what they say; maybe a name?   See pictures.
Blade is stained/tarnished.  I did not clean or polish.  Blade and hilt have strong reaction to
magnet.  It looks to me like the nut on the end of the handle has been replaed.
Sheath is probably 'leather look'?  Couple of small cuts.
