These knives are carried even today by Moro Pirates. "Black Jack" Pershing and General Leonard Wood went up against the Moros in 1902 in a war that lasted from 1899-1913. Pershing was 40 years old at the time. Pershing offered the Maranoa Warriors either an iron fist or a velvet glove depending on whether or not they surrendered. Leonard Wood believed the only good Moro was a dead Moro and was ruthless in the war. This is a little known war that lasted a long time. Many are unaware of it.
