Degen Made Circa 1891 w Kaiser Wilhem II’s Crest
This is an antique German Model 1889 Infantry Officer’s Degen, made circa 1891 by Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie of Solingen, Germany. This sword would have seen use up through World War I.
This style of sword is characterized by the partially angled grip and straight blade. The blade is double fullered. The guard folds on a hinge for storage. There is no scabbard. The ricasso is marked “W.K.&C” along with their trademarks. The guard features an ornate German eagle design with a crown, scepter and sword. The Roman numeral “II” appears on both the eagle and the emblem on the grip for Kaiser Wilhelm II, the last German Emperor.
The overall condition is fine. The braided wire wrapped grip is complete and tight. The blade is 33 inches in length and is in fine condition showing little wear. This sword could be polished and cleaned up, as it is now possessing natural patina from age.
